We’re thrilled to be able to roast this coffee again, a few years after we were last able to offer it. The Trujillo family are dedicated specialty coffee ambassadors, with a desire and dedication to produce amazing coffee from their farm in Caldono. This pink bourbon varietal is one of the jewels of the farm’s production, and was one of the best coffees Chris tasted when on a trip to Colombia a few years back, where Paola was our guide. In fact, it’s one of our all-time favourites, ever.

The reins of ruining the Patio Bonito farm have passed from father Señor Carlos to daughter Paola, and we were fortunate to bump into her at the London Coffee Festival a couple of years ago. She’s been busy setting up courses and training at the farm for young farmers, continuing to develop the quality of the farm offerings, and experimenting with the considerable breadth of varietals grown at Patio Bonito.

After a few conversations, several samples, and routed through a different importer, we’re delighted to have this coffee back on our shelves, and more importantly, on the way into your cups.

Pink bourbon is a varietal that rewards hard work, but it’s a fickle beast. Yields are low, the plants are more susceptible to disease and pest, but the results can be spectacular. This particular lot is a juice bomb – think masses of peach, raspberry, pink lemonade, and a real elegance too. There’s plenty of complexity to keep you interested, and a lovely weightiness to the texture.

You can certainly brew espresso with it, and the results will be fruit-salad like – a cacophony of fruits and bright zippy acidity, and we’d recommend brewing a slightly longer shot to allow these flavours to be released.  Filter and pourover is where it really shows off though, with the crisp elegance to the fore. Big juicy quaffable cups made via V60, Chemex, batch brew or filter – yum!
