Costa Rica
This washed coffee from Coope Dota in Santa Maria de Dota, Costa Rica is a real crowd pleaser. With notes of apricot, almond frangipane and cacao, we’re loving it hot, cold, on espresso and filter.
Santa Maria de Dota is a Costa Rican town in an area known as Tarrazu. In the past, the producers in Santa Maria de Dota and it’s surrounding towns were seriously up against it. Growers had little expertise in agronomy and the closest wet mill was over 50km away, creating serious logistical challenges. The coffee would then be sold at an unreasonably low price to middlemen, who treated the producers unfairly. That is, until the arrival Co-ope Dota in the 1960s.
Co-ope Dota is a group of around 900 smallholder who hold the title as the first coffee processor in the world to be certified as carbon neutral. The have numerous processes in place to offset the impact of their growing operation and roastery, such as compost made from their coffee waste and the use parchment to fuel their driers.
Arabicadabra is a real crowd pleaser. It’s super versatile, resulting in a delicious cup whatever the brewing method. It’s easy going and super balanced – with a yellow stone fruit acidity and caramelised patisserie sweetness. On filter, it’s full bodied, with plenty of ripened apricot brightness. Refreshing and vibrant when iced, making it perfect for the summer months. Arabicadabra makes for a super fruity espresso, balanced with deeply rich notes of cacao.
