Rwandan coffee has a vibrant taste with citrus and floral notes. It has bright fruity notes and you can expect flavours of berries and citrus fruit with a pleasant caramel aroma. Rwandan coffee beans are bright and fruity with high levels of acidity and are clean and crisp with a medium to light body.
Coffee is grown widely around Rwanda along Lake Kivu from Gisenyi in the North to Gisenyi in the central areas and Cyangugu further south. In the south, there is also production in Butare and other popular growing regions including Virunga, Muhazi, Kivu, Kizi Rift, and Akagera. Coffee production in Rwanda thrives at high altitudes of 1500 -1700 m, with an average rainfall of 1500mm per year and idyllic temperatures of around 22°C. Rwanda also benefits from weathered volcanic soils which is perfect for coffee production. The regular rainfall and humidity also provide excellent coffee-growing conditions.
Our Rwanda coffee beans arrive as green coffee and are roasted at our Liverpool HQ into a delightful light to medium roast. We only roast Arabica coffee beans because they’re the best, so you won’t find any Robusta or dark roast coffee beans at Neighbourhood Coffee. You can either buy Rwandan coffee beans as whole beans or ground coffee and we can grind it to suit your brewing method.
